Getting a new AC system installed is a significant investment — for most Miami homeowners, it's one of the largest home improvement purchases they'll make. Knowing exactly what happens on installation day removes the anxiety and helps you prepare properly.

Before Installation Day

After you've accepted our estimate, here's what happens in the lead-up to installation:

  • Equipment ordering: We order your specific system from our distributor. Most equipment is available within 1–3 business days; specialty or high-efficiency units may take up to a week.
  • Permit application: We apply for the required building permit with Miami-Dade or Broward county. This is typically processed within 1–5 business days for residential systems.
  • Schedule confirmation: We'll confirm your installation window the day before and give you a 2-hour arrival window.

What to Do Before Our Team Arrives

  • Clear a 3-foot path to the indoor air handler (typically in a closet, attic, or utility room)
  • Ensure the area around the outdoor unit is clear of plants, furniture, and debris
  • If your air handler is in a tight attic space, clear the attic access hatch
  • Secure pets in a separate room
  • Know where your main electrical panel is located

The Installation Process — Step by Step

Step 1: System Assessment (30 min)

Our lead technician does a final walkthrough to confirm all measurements, assess existing ductwork and electrical, and discuss any last questions with you before work begins.

Step 2: Removing the Old System (1–2 hours)

We safely recover all refrigerant from the old system (required by EPA regulations), disconnect electrical and refrigerant lines, and remove both the indoor and outdoor units. We handle disposal of the old equipment — you don't have to worry about it.

Step 3: Installing the New Indoor Unit (1–2 hours)

The new air handler is installed in the same location as the old one (or a new location if discussed). We connect it to the existing ductwork, install a new drain pan with float switch, and run new refrigerant line sets if needed.

Step 4: Installing the New Outdoor Unit (1 hour)

The condenser unit is placed on a level pad (we replace cracked or unlevel pads), properly anchored per Florida code, and connected to the refrigerant lines and electrical disconnect.

Step 5: Electrical Connections & Thermostat (30–60 min)

All wiring is connected and inspected. If you're upgrading to a smart thermostat, this is installed and programmed now.

Step 6: System Startup & Testing (45–60 min)

This is the most important phase. We:

  • Pull the system into a deep vacuum to remove all moisture and air from the refrigerant circuit
  • Charge the system with the precise manufacturer-specified amount of refrigerant
  • Measure operating pressures, temperatures, and electrical draw
  • Verify supply/return temperature differential (should be 16–22°F)
  • Check all safety controls and confirm thermostat operation

Step 7: Walkthrough with Homeowner

Before we leave, we walk you through the new system — how to operate the thermostat, where the filter is and how to change it, what the warranty covers, and how to reach us if needed. We leave the area clean and remove all old equipment and packaging.

Total Time: A standard replacement installation takes 4–8 hours. We aim to have your new system running the same day in virtually all residential replacements.

After Installation: The Inspection

For permitted installations, a county inspector will need to approve the work. We coordinate this and will be present for the inspection. The inspection typically occurs within 5–10 business days of installation and requires no action on your part other than access to the property.
